Britannia Hotel

The Leading Hotels of the World · Trondheim's grand-dame five-star hotel on Dronningens gate, first opened in 1870 and reopened in 2019 after a three-year restoration

Britannia Hotel stands on Dronningens gate in the centre of Trondheim, a cream-fronted landmark first opened in 1870 to receive the salmon fishermen, royalty and explorers who passed through the city. After a three-year restoration it reopened in April 2019 as a five-star hotel and a member of The Leading Hotels of the World, with the 1918 Palmehaven hall once again at its centre.

The hotel has 257 rooms and suites, from rooms in the historic wings to the Tower Suite at the top of the building. Interiors pair the restored plasterwork and proportions of the original house with marble bathrooms and Norwegian art and design; many rooms look over Dronningens gate or the hotel's inner courtyard.

Dining is centred on Speilsalen, the hotel's fine-dining restaurant, which holds a Michelin star, and on Palmehaven, the palm court where breakfast and afternoon tea are served under the glass roof. The Britannia Bar occupies the hotel's corner site, and there are further restaurants and a wine bar within the building.

Below the hotel, Britannia Spa & Fitness offers a pool, saunas and treatment rooms. As a scouting base the hotel sits in the middle of Trondheim's compact centre — Nidaros Cathedral, the Bakklandet old town and the Solsiden restaurant quarter are all a short walk away, in the city that anchors Norway's Trøndelag region.
