Amanzoe

Aman · Hilltop pavilion-and-villa resort above Porto Heli, on the Peloponnese's east coast

Amanzoe sits on a hilltop above Porto Heli, near the town of Kranidi in the Argolida, framed by olive groves with 360-degree views over the Aegean and the island-dotted Argolic Gulf. Designed by architect Ed Tuttle as a contemporary take on a classical acropolis, the resort arranges its pavilions and villas across the crest of the hill in pale stone and clean lines.

Every pavilion and villa comes with its own private pool, terrace and garden, so stays are private by design; interiors pair pared-back Aman styling with local stone and wood. The main pool and the library sit at the top of the resort, close to the principal restaurant and bar.

Dining runs from the main Restaurant's Mediterranean menus to Nama, the resort's Japanese restaurant, with much of the produce drawn from the Bostani, Amanzoe's own organic garden. Down at the shore, the Beach Club occupies a sheltered bay a short drive or boat ride away, with cabanas, a restaurant and watersports on the water.

For a scouting base it works on two levels: the Peloponnese's heavyweight sites — Mycenae, Epidaurus, Nafplio — are all within day-trip range, while the resort itself gives a quiet, residential feel for what life on this coast is like outside the summer peak. Amanzoe is seasonal, closing in mid-November and reopening in late March.

Scouting checklist

  • Stay in at least two neighbourhoods.
  • Choose somewhere with a kitchen: it reveals daily costs.
  • Visit a supermarket, a clinic and a school during the stay.
  • Ask the manager where they would and wouldn't rent.

Every listing links to the property's own website. Listings are editorial picks; a Partner tag marks a paid placement, and a Long-stay tag marks places set up for longer stays.
