Victoria House Resort & Spa

Victoria House · Independent beachfront resort on Ambergris Caye, two miles south of San Pedro town

Victoria House occupies a white-sand beach at 22 Coconut Drive, about two miles south of San Pedro town on Ambergris Caye, spread across roughly ten acres of lawns and tropical gardens. The Belize Barrier Reef — a UNESCO World Heritage site — lies around a mile offshore, and the resort's own pier is the departure point for snorkelling, diving and fishing trips.

Its 42 rooms span garden casitas and plantation rooms, staterooms, suites and private villas, including Casa Playa Blanca, a two-bedroom villa with its own infinity pool. Interiors follow a classic plantation style — four-poster beds with mosquito netting, hardwood and terracotta floors, and verandas set up for the sea breeze.

The Palmilla Restaurant serves Belizean and international dishes on a veranda facing the water, and the Admiral Nelson's Bar sits by the main pool. The resort's spa covers 3,500 square feet — the largest on Ambergris Caye — and an on-site dive and activity centre on the pier arranges reef and mainland excursions.

As a scouting base it suits the quieter residential stretch south of San Pedro: the town's shops, banks and services are a short golf-cart ride away, the airstrip and water taxis are close at hand, and the concierge can organise everything from a reef snorkel to a day at the Maya sites of the Cayo.

Scouting checklist

  • Stay in at least two neighbourhoods.
  • Choose somewhere with a kitchen: it reveals daily costs.
  • Visit a supermarket, a clinic and a school during the stay.
  • Ask the manager where they would and wouldn't rent.

Every listing links to the property's own website. Listings are editorial picks; a Partner tag marks a paid placement, and a Long-stay tag marks places set up for longer stays.
